Biggest Loser Winner Talks Weight Loss Controversy

Savannah Guthrie & Rachel Frederickson

Rachel Frederickson shocked The Biggest Loser viewers and trainers earlier this month when she revealed a drastic, 155 pound weight loss at the show’s finale. The reality star’s new, 105-pound figure stirred up major controversy, with many wondering if she lost the weight in a healthy way.

On Tuesday, the 24-year-old appeared on Today to discuss her journey, and admitted she was surprised at the negative reaction. “I felt so proud of everything I accomplished,” she explained. “My journey was my own, and I loved it…I lived it. I felt really proud of what I did.”

Looking healthier than she did at The Biggest Loser finale three weeks ago, Rachel made sure to point out that her weight loss was done the right way. “It was absolutely healthy weight loss,” she reiterated. “I dieted, exercised, and did it healthy the whole way. I appreciate the concern and I can see where it comes from. There’s the movie magic…it’s almost seven months, almost a year of my life losing the weight. I was very unhealthy at 260 pounds and now, post-finale, I’m the healthiest, most alive I’ve ever felt.

Now, the Season 15 winner is in maintenance mode, but has a newfound attitude about not getting back to the place she was in before the show. “I think that what I’ve learned is that I have an inner strength. I have a voice and I can trust myself,” she concluded.
