Last June, Lea Michele completed her debut album Louder. Her music career was put on hold in July, though, when her boyfriend Cory Monteith unexpectedly died of an accidental drug overdose.

In a new interview with V Magazine, the Glee star reveals that the 31-year-old’s passing led her to add the songs “Cannonball,” her first single, and “If You Say So” to the album. “It’s the only song that no one’s heard,” she said, of the latter. “I can’t talk about it until people hear it. I Just feel like people should hear it and I don’t know if I’m ever going to talk about it. It’s just one of those things where I understand what it means and you can take it or leave it. That song is for me.”

She also considers “Cannonball” her “personal anthem,” and refers to it as a song that’s “helped me so much.”

The 27-year-old got help in ways besides music after Cory’s death, too. One way was through a newfound friendship with Stevie Nicks. “There were people who were like, ‘I’m not f—ing leaving your side, and that, for me, was Stevie,” she explained. “She’s like a fairy. She’s given me so many gifts along the way, and when I say gifts, I mean tools and advice and support. She told me at the beginning that music was going to be [my] therapy.” She added, “It’s so cool I have her number.”

Along with the interview, Lea posed for a sexy photo shoot with Terry Richardson — with photos showing a lot of skin. “My friends call me Grandma, but like, Grandma’s killing it right now,” she joked. “I’m pretty sure Grandma nailed it in a half-naked Terry Richardson shoot, okay? So I’m fine with it. I just do my thing. I do what’s best for me. That’s it.”

Louder comes out on March 4.
