Harold Ramis, who is best known for playing Egon Spengler in Ghostbusters, died with family by his side on Monday, Feb. 24 at 12:53 a.m. According to his wife, the 69-years-old’s death was due to complications from a rare disease called autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis.

His health struggles began back in May 2010 when an infection led to complications. He had a relapse of the vasculitis in 2011.

Harold is a comedy legend, with writing credits on films like National Lampoon’s Animal House and Groundhog Day. He is survived by his wife, Erica, their two sons, and a daughter from his first marriage.
