Gone but not forgotten. Cate Blanchett won Best Actress at the British Academy Film Awards on Sunday, and used her speech to remember the late Philip Seymour Hoffman. The duo became friends after starring in The Talented Mr. Ripley in 1999.

“I would like to dedicate this to an actor who has been a continual, profound touchstone for me, a monumental presence who is now so sadly in absence,” she began her speech. “The late, great Philip Seymour Hoffman. Phil, your monumental talent, your unflinching quest for truth, both in art and in life, will be missed by so many people. You raised the bar continually. Phil, buddy, this is for you, you bastard. Hope you’re proud.”

Just days following Philip’s death, the Blue Jasmine star paid a visit to Mimi O’Donnell, the mother of his three children. She brought along several gifts.

In the BAFTA’s press room, Cate expanded on her dedication to the actor. “I don’t think I’m alone in the room having been profoundly influenced by Phil and his body of work, but also by who he was as a person,” she gushed. “He was the most extraordinary friend to so many people. His influence, I think…I mean, time will tell just how deep it was. If I could be half the actor he was in his unfortunately short life, I’ll be very happy.”
