Justin Bieber was arrested in Miami Beach early Thursday morning for DUI and drag racing, police confirmed on Twitter.
The 19-year-old was charged with drunken driving, resisting arrest and drag racing. Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez confirmed that the singer was booked in Miami jail after failing a sobriety test.
“[He] made some statements that he had consumed some alcohol, and that he had been smoking marijuana and consumed prescription medication,” Martinez added.
The incident happened around 4 a.m. near Pine Tree Drive and West 26th Street. Bieber, who was in a rented Lamborghini, was pulled over along with a red Ferrari, police said. The Ferrari driver was identified by Miami Beach Police as rapper Khalil Amir Sharief, aka Crazy Khalil. He was also arrested. Martinez said that the “Heartbreaker” singer was uncooperative.
“At first, he was a little belligerent, using some choice words questioning why he was being stopped and why the officer wasn’t even questioning him,” he explained. “When [the officer] opened up the window and confronted Mr. Bieber, he smelled a strong odor of alcoholic beverage.”
