It’s been more than two years since any new episodes of Kate Gosselin’s family TV series have aired, and now, she’s out to prove that growing up in front of cameras hasn’t had a negative impact on her eight children. To help do so, the reality star appeared on TODAY with her 13-year-old twins, Cara and Mady, but things didn’t exactly go as planned.
When the girls were asked what they’d want to say to the world about their current lives, they both completely froze up — even with some prompting from mom. “It’s your chance, spit it out!” Kate told them. “This is their chance to talk, and it’s the most wordless I’ve heard them all morning.”
Finally, Mady began to open up a bit, regarding whether or not the public has the wrong impression of her family. “I wouldn’t say wrong, I’d just say [they don't know] the full story,” she explained. “A lot of people think that our show has damaged us, but it’s only really helped.”
In fact, the teenager admitted that, if given the opportunity, she’d be glad to do another TV series. “It was fun,” she said. “I really miss it, and so does Cara, but she’s not going to say it.”
While the girls kept fairly quiet, Kate made sure to point out that all decisions regarding their return to the public eye have been made as a family. “With any TV things that we do, obviously, I mean — I can’t get them to do, at this age, 13, anything they don’t want to do,” she reiterated. “So it’s not like I forced them to do it. This was a, ‘Hey, the TODAY show asked us if we wanted to do this — how do you feel?’ and they agreed. As with my 9-year-olds — it’s a family decision. So, it’s really frustrating when there’s so much out there that’s not true.”
