Don’t expect a romantic reconciliation between Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray — or any reconciliation, it seems. The actress appeared on Watch What Happens Live! and answered a fan’s question about whether or not she still kept in touch with her ex-husband.
“That’s such an interesting question,” she started. “But my mother once said to me that if you don’t have anything nice to say, not to say anything at all!”
The former couple tied the knot in April 2005, but split just five months later. Sophia moved to get the marriage annulled on the basis of fraud, but was denied, and they became officially divorced in December 2006. After that, they spent nearly three years continuing to work together on One Tree Hill.
“At the end of the day, we’re grownups,” she explained, of remaining cordial with Chad. “I actually think what’s interesting about that is when people split in a way that’s unpleasant, they usually just go on, quite literally, hating each other — or the person in my situation hates the other person, whatever — but when you have to work with somebody for another half a decade, you kind of have to deal with it. Because, for me, at the end of the day, my job is my priority. And, so I think at the end of it, it really let me just let go of it.”
Years later, it seems Sophia still regrets her decision to walk down the aisle. “At the end of the day, we were two stupid kids who had no business being in a relationship in the first place,” she admitted. “To all the other costars who’ve worked it out — more power to you.”
