Lindsey Vonn Pulls Out of 2014 Olympics

Lindsey Vonn

Things may be going well in Lindsey Vonn’s love life right now, but her career has recently taken a hit that’s out of her control. The downhill skier announced that she’ll have to pull out of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi due to her injury from November.

“I am devastated to announce that I will not be able to compete in Sochi,” she said in a statement. “I did everything I possibly could to somehow get strong enough to overcome having now ACL, but the reality has sunk in that my knee is just too unstable to compete at this level.”

The 29-year-old, who is dating Tiger Woods, partially tore her ACL and suffered a strain in her right knee while training last fall. She has since competed, but not nearly at Olympic level. “I’m having surgery soon so that I can be ready for the World Championship at home in Vail next February,” she continued. “On a positive note, this means that there will be an additional spot so that one of my teammates can go for gold!”

Lindsey won the gold medal for Downhill Skiing at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
