Anna Paquin Cut From X-Men: Days of Future Past

Anna Paquin

There’s a lot that gets left on the cutting room floor when a movie’s being put edited — and sometimes, that means eliminating a character all together. Unfortunately, such was the fate for Anna Paquin’s character Rogue, in the upcoming X-Men sequel.

The film’s director, Brian Singer, revealed that the True Blood star’s only scene had been shot early-on, and will not be used. “Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” he said. “It’s a really good sequence and will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But, like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches, and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials, and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”

Brian added that she actress completely understood the decision, and that it had nothing to do with her performance.

X-Men: Days of Future Past will hit theaters on May 23.
