As Duck Dynasty continues to maintain its popularity, one of the show’s cast members is being forced to take a step back. Phil Robertson, who started the family business, has been suspended from the A&E show following an interview with GQ, during which he openly made anti-gay remarks.

In the interview, the 67-year-old said, “Everything is blurred in what’s right and wrong. Sin becomes fine. Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there — bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” He also compared gay people to terrorists, adding, “We never ever judge someone on who’s going to heaven, hell. That’s the Almighty’s job. We just love ’em, give ’em the good news about Jesus — whether they’re homosexuals, drunks, terrorists. We let God sort ’em out later.”

Phil released a statement saying that he would never “treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different than me” and that he loves “all of humanity,” but the network still made the decision to put him on hiatus.

“We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty,” the statement read. “His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely.”
