There may have been some pretty big breakups in 2013, but at the same time, there were a number of wedding ceremonies to make up for the heartbreak!
While there were many notable celeb weddings this year, we rounded up ten of the most talked about nuptials — although, surprisingly, many of them were low-key (or even secret!) events. Check out the list:
10. Kate Bosworth and Michael Polish
After two years together, Kate and Michael tied the knot on Aug. 31 at an intimate ceremony in Montana. They exchanged vows in front of just 75 of their close family and friends, and the actress wore two, custom Oscar de la Renta gowns throughout the big day. The couple met on the set of Big Sur in 2011.
These musicians held an elaborate ceremony for their wedding on July 1! Although they only invited about 50 guests, Avril and Chad pulled out all the stops for their ceremony in Mandelieu, France. Going against the grain, the “Here’s to Never Growing Up” singer wore a black dress. Guests were treated to a fireworks display, as well as a “wild party” that lasted until 6 a.m.
The lovebirds got together while working on music in early 2012, but didn’t go very public with their relationship until announcing their engagement in August of that year.
8. Kerry Washington and Nnamdi Asomugha
In the most secretive wedding of the year, Kerry married former NFL player, Nnamdi, on June 24 in Idaho. The Scandal star is admittedly private about her personal life, and was reportedly dating her now-husband for three years — which she even kept secret from some friends. To add to this couple’s unexpected story, it was also revealed in October that Kerry is expecting their first child!
7. Jennifer Love-Hewitt and Brian Hallisay
2013 brought an engagement…wedding…and baby for Jennifer! In June, Star was first to report that the Client List costars were expecting their first child, and shortly after, the couple announced their plans to tie the knot. Jennifer and Brian got married in secret at an unknown time after that, and the actress gave birth to their daughter, Autumn, in November.
6. Zoe Saldana and Marco Perego
In the early weeks of 2013, Zoe was still on-again-off-again with Bradley Cooper, which is why it came as a major shock when she secretly tied the knot with Italian artist, Marco, in June! News of the couple’s intimate, London nuptials didn’t even surface until a few months later in September.
5. Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler
Here’s a not-so-out-of-left-field wedding for you! Although they called off their engagement in the summer of 2011, Kristin and Jay reconciled later that year and announced the former reality star’s first pregnancy. She gave birth in August 2012, and in June 2013, the couple got married in Tennessee. They honeymooned in Italy afterward, and in October, announced they were expecting their second child.
4. Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez
Halle and Olivier wed at France’s Chateau des Conde on July 13, in what was described as a “down-to-earth” wedding, with around 60 guests. This was the actress’ third time walking down the aisle, and in October, she gave birth to the couple’s son, Maceo.
This one was a long time coming! Although they got engaged in January 2010, Kristen and Dax held off getting married until California legalized same-sex marriage. When the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was overturned in June 2013, Kristen took to Twitter to publicly ask her fiance to make things official. They finally tied the knot in October at the LA County Clerk’s office in the “lowest-key day possible.” Together, they have a daughter, Lincoln, who was born in March.
2. Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock
Originally, Kelly and Brandon were planning a big, lavish wedding, but the singer announced in August that they’d changed their minds. Instead, they wed just in a private Nashville ceremony, with Brandon’s two kids in attendance, on Oct. 20. In November, Kelly announced that the couple is expecting their first child.
Chrissy and John wed on Sept. 14 in Lake Como, Italy, although their official “I do’s” came a few days prior at a courthouse in New York City. Their wedding was attended by around 125 guests, including celebrities like Kanye West and Stevie Wonder. Throughout the day, Chrissy wore three different Vera Wang dresses, and John took to the piano to sing his song “All of Me” to his bride. The couple got engaged in December 2011 after four years of dating.
