Like his wife, Jennifer Garner, Ben Affleck is not pleased with paparazzi trying to photograph his young children. The actor opened up to Playboy about his issues with photographers, and a scary stalker who took advantage of them to get close to his family.
“It’s wrong and disgusting to follow children around and take their picture and sell it for money,” he said. “It makes the kids less safe. They used to take pictures of our children coming out of preschool, and so this stalker who threatened to kill me, my wife and our kids showed up at the school and got arrested — there are real practical dangers to this.”
Ben explained that the stalker put himself in the middle of the pack of paparazzi, without anybody knowing that he wasn’t there for the same reason as the rest of the photographers. “My kids aren’t celebrities,” the 41-year-old reiterated. “They never made that bargain.”
In fact, he revealed that his kids are actually frightened of the photogs that follow them around. “As their father, it’s my job to protect them from that stuff. I try my very best, and sometimes I’m successful,” he admitted. He added, “The kids are always looking down because they’re freaked out and scared of those people. And so [the reporters] yell. Which is fine if you’re Lindsay Lohan coming out of a club, or me, or any adult. With kids, it’s tasteless at best.”
Ben’s wife, Jennifer, has previously fought alongside Halle Berry to get a law passed that would make it harassment for anyone to record or photograph a child without their legal guardian’s permission.
