Scandal has provided a great deal of success for ABC this season, but the network has reduced the Thursday night drama from 22 episodes to just 18. There was no reason given for the decision, but ratings are likely not a factor — the show has been killing it in that department.

The drama, which stars Kerry Washington, is up 57% in the 18-49 demographic from last season, and has also seen a 50% increase in viewers, pulling in an average 12.6 million per episode. So what could’ve forced producers to make this decision?

Although she has yet to confirm it, several media outlets have reported that Kerry is pregnant. The fashion and style of her character, Olivia Pope, plays a huge part in the show, and it’s not likely that you’ll find loose, baggy clothing in the political fixer’s closet. Plus, the intensity of Kerry’s character in every scene probably isn’t the best for a woman carrying child!

Scandal will go on winter hiatus after next week’s episode, and then return on Feb. 27 with the season’s remaining eight episodes.
