It was the biggest opening November weekend at the movies EVER this year thanks to The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The film set a record by grossing $161.1 million domestically on its premiere weekend.
The movie, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth, beat out The Twilight Saga: New Moon — its opening weekend grossed $142 million back in 2009.
Besides just becoming a November record, Catching Fire is now also has the fourth highest-grossing opening weekend record of all time. Only The Avengers ($207.4 million), Iron Man 3 ($174.1 million) and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($169.1 million) did better.
Worldwide, the film has already earned more than $300 million.
