Well, this is certainly no surprise. Thor: The Dark World debuted to big numbers at the box office over the weekend, completely blowing away all of its competition.
The film, which stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, raked in $7.1 million in Thursday night previews and midnight screenings alone. Throughout the entire opening weekend, the sequel earned $86.1 million. The showing was an improvement from Thor’s May 2011 premiere weekend, which earned $65.7 million.
Following Thor: The Dark World, was Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa with $11.3 million and and the children’s flick Free Birds with $11.2 million.
