The coaches have selected their teams, and now it’s time to narrow them down for the upcoming live shows on The Voice. On Monday’s episode, the battle rounds returned, during which coaches Christina Aguilera, Blake Shlelton, CeeLo Green and Adam Levine each pair two contestants from their respective teams against one another.
For the third season in a row, the coaches also have two opportunities to steal an eliminated contestant from another coach — and the Battles started out just like that! After Adam chose wedding singer Grey over the eccentric Nic Hawk, his arch-enemy on the show, Blake, snatched up the fallen singer.
However, it was Christina’s next pairing that brought out the most emotion — the singer was in tears after watching her two teenage powerhouses, Amber Nicole and Timyra-Joi perform Beyonce’s “Listen.” She ultimately went with the more experienced Amber, and was disheartened when none of her fellow coaches decided to steal 15-year-old Timyra-Joi.
After that, Blake paired his country artists Shelbie Z and Justin Chain, ultimately choosing Shelbie to move on. CeeLo brought out the quiet Caroline Pennell against Anthony Paul, and although he eliminated the young R&B singer, Christina chose to push her button for the steal, adding Anthony to her team. Adam then chose Tessanne Chin over 54-year-old Donna Allen, but the most surprising battle of the night was definitely Xtina’s final pairing.
The “We Remain” singer had Kaley Cuoco’s little sis Briana Cuoco take on 16-year-old Jacquie Lee, and the girls gave a powerful and beautiful rendition of “House of the Rising Sun.” While watching from the audience, Kaley was in tears as Christina gave Jacquie the win, but they were immediately replaced by smiles as both Blake and CeeLo went for the steal.
In the end, Briana picked Team Blake, closing out his two steal spots for the remainder of the battle rounds.
