Q&A: Giuliana Rancic Talks Breast Cancer Battle, Fashion & Family

Giuliana Rancic

It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as a survivor, Giuliana Rancic is doing her part to bring attention to the disease. The E! News correspondent hosted the Night Bright Fashion event and fundraiser at Westfield UTC to help benefit Bright Pink, a national non-profit organization that supports breast cancer.

To raise funds for Bright Pink’s life-saving programs, Giuliana has partnered with Westfield on the Bright Pink book, which offers shoppers dozens of exclusive deals from participating retailers at Westfield malls around the United States (the book and deals are available through October — get more info at www.WestfieldPinkBook.com).

The 39-year-old mom spoke exclusively with Star about her battle with the breast cancer, being a survivor, fashion and family!

What is the biggest lesson you learned about yourself during your battle with breast cancer?

Attitude is everything. The minute that I started to look for the positives in my situation, things started to turn around. It’s so easy to be angry and upset over a cancer diagnosis, and at first, I definitely was. But, after a few weeks of feeling that way, I turned my attitude around and was ready to get through it. I came out of that time a stronger and better person, undoubtedly.

You have overcome more than many can imagine during the last few years. What motivates you?

Definitely my family. The minute Duke was born nothing else mattered, and I wanted to be the best, happiest, healthiest person I could be for him and my husband, Bill [Rancic].

Why was it important for you to create the Fab-U-Wish organization [in coordination with Bright Pink, Giuliana helps grants wishes for women with breast cancer with Fab-U-Wish]?

Fab-U-Wish is very near and dear to my heart because I actually came up with the idea while I was going through my own cancer treatment. I thought, ‘Wow, wouldn’t it be great to offer women who are going through the same thing I am the opportunity to feel fabulous for a day?’ We launched less than a year ago, and I am so proud of all the work we are doing.

You’re also on the panel of E!’s Fashion Police. Would you say you’ve always had a knack for fashion?

I have definitely always loved it. My dad is an expert tailor who makes beautiful clothes that he sells at his store in Washington D.C., so I definitely grew up around excellent fashion.

Is fashion or comfort more important to you when picking out clothes for Duke?

Both! I think it’s important to be practical when picking out his day-to-day clothes, but sometimes it’s fun to dress him up in a not-so-practical outfit. I love putting a Fedora on him! It only stays on for about ten seconds, but it’s still so cute.

Do you and Bill ever battle over what outfits to dress him in?

Not really. We both have fun picking out his clothes and we have similar taste so we definitely don’t argue about that!

Are you and Bill planning on having more children?

We are definitely talking about having a second child, but there is nothing to confirm yet. For now, we’re just enjoying every second with Duke.
