Ben Affleck Talks Backlash Over Batman Role

There’s no turning back now — Ben Affleck is definitely playing Batman in the Man of Steel sequel alongside Henry Cavill’s Superman. Unfortunately for the actor, though, the decision to cast him in the role wasn’t originally widely accepted.

“The people from the studio said, ‘We want to talk to you because people go through this process and it can be a little trying,'” Ben told Jimmy Fallon in a recent interview. “They said, ‘We want to show you some of the reactions that past cast members have got on the Internet.'”

The Oscar-winning actor wasn’t too worried about what people had to say, though. “I said, ‘I’m a big boy!'” he joked. “If I can handle the [Oscar] snub, I can handle anything.” (He, of course, was referencing the 2013 Academy Awards, when he didn’t get nominated in the Best Director category for Argo).

“Then I saw the announcement, and it’s like, “Ben Affleck is going to be Batman!” and the first comment goes, “Nooooo…..”” he laughed. Clearly, he’s taking the fan-hate in stride, and spends part of the interview talking about how excited he is for the upcoming role — plus, he discusses his three kids with Jimmy…check it out!:
