In terms of relationships, things have been a bit rocky for Aria (Lucy Hale) on Season 4 of Pretty Little Liars. After breaking things off with Ezra (Ian Harding), she was reluctant to move on, but soon found comfort in her martial arts teacher, Jake (Ryan Guzman).

Star spoke with Ryan about being a part of the show, and he dished on the response he’s gotten from “Ezria” fans, as well as what we can expect from his character in the future. Check out our exclusive Q&A with the actor for all the details!

Congrats on your role on Pretty Little Liars this season! Viewers of the show seem to be generally upset about the end of Aria and Ezra’s relationship — how has the overall fan response been to you and your character as you’ve become a new love interest for her?

The fan response has been great, but also a little crazy. I think it’s a good time to clarify — I am not my character. I admire the passion the fans have for the show, but sometimes, I feel it may be misguided towards me as a person with some of the negative comments I’ve been receiving towards Jake and Ezra. Aside from that, I’m really enjoying interacting with all the PLL supporters. Many have been so wonderful voicing their excitement and support for me via Twitter. I appreciate the love.

Is there anything exciting coming up for your character, Jake, on the show that you can tease for us?

You’ll see a progression of the relationship between Jake and Aria that will either make you extremely happy or terribly angry…and Jake might misplace his shirt once or twice again!

Now that you’ve had experience with both movies and television, which do you prefer?

I have fun doing both, but I want to dive into feature films and make my stamp in that realm.

What are you most excited for about getting back on the set of Step Up?

Step Up is family to me. It’s where I got my start in the industry, so my favorite part about being back on set once again is working with people I really enjoy spending time around.

What else can we look forward to from you in the future and what else do you hope to accomplish in the industry?

My cousin and I started our own company by the name of Primo Entertainment LLC and are diving into producing, writing, directing and acting in films we want to make. I’m going to continue to grow as a person and as a business man in the industry so that I can continuously be creative and put out films, shows, etc. that entertain a variety of people.

Check out Ryan on Pretty Little Liars, airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC Family — and look out for him in the next Step Up film!
