When two pop artists release new songs at the same time…there’s going to have to be some friendly competition. Although Katy Perry and Lady Gaga have supported one another since their new, respective singles leaked this weekend, one will inevitably be more successful than the other.
Hours after Katy released the full version of her new song “Roar,” Gaga gave in and streamed “Applause” online for her fans, a week before it was set to debut.
Although Katy made it clear that she’s shedding her “California Gurls” image with her new record Prism, “Roar” proves to be the typical, sugar-pop tune with random analogies that we expect from the 28-year-old. Give it a listen:
Meanwhile, “Applause” doesn’t stray too far from Gaga’s normal wheelhouse, either, although her sound does seem a bit changed up compared to Katy’s. Check it out:
To heat up the competition between these two songs even more, both ladies will be giving debut performances of their new singles at the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 25. Katy’s album will drop on Oct. 22, while Gaga’s ArtPop will be released on Nov. 11.
