Death of Cory Monteith's Glee Character Will Deal With Drug Abuse

Cory Monteith & Lea Michele

When writing the late Cory Monteith’s Glee character, Finn Hudson, off the show, writers are using inspiration from Cory’s real life struggle.

“The third episode [of Season 5] will write Cory out of the show,” Fox Entertainment Chairman, Kevin Reilly, confirmed. “That episode will deal directly with the incidents involving Cory’s passing and the drug abuse in particular.” Cory died from an accidental drug overdose of heroin and alcohol on July 13. However, Kevin did not admit drug use will be addressed, he did not confirm that Finn will die from an overdose.

During the episode, PSAs featuring Glee actors will air, and proceeds from the episode’s music will go to a fund in Cory’s name. Season 5 of the show began filming today, and Cory’s real life and on-screen girlfriend Lea Michele seemed in high spirits mentioning the return on Twitter.

“First day of glee today..And at my first wardrobe fitting for Rachel Berry for Season Five! I’ve missed her so much❤,” she wrote.

Season 5 may just be getting underway, but Kevin says he doesn’t see the show going past a sixth season — so get your fix in while you can.
