Shailene Woodley was hard at work a few months ago, filming scenes for The Amazing Spider-Man 2. She even dyed her hair red for her role as Mary Jane Watson. But, now, the actress reveals that her work won’t be seen when the film hits theaters.
Instead, the crew is saving the introduction of Mary Jane until the third film, which is not slated for release until 2016! “Of course I’m bummed,” Shailene shared. “But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason. Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film.”
Luckily, Shailene will likely be keeping busy, despite the news. She’s starring in the film adaptation of young adult novel Divergent, which spans three books, and likely, just as many movies. She also just got a starring role in another book-to-film adaptation, The Fault in Our Stars. Yep, that should all keep her pretty occupied until she has to start doing Spider-Man press in 2016!
Keep in mind — even though Shailene’s out, we WILL still get to see real-life couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone on the big screen when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out…and nobody can complain about that!
