Justin Beiber got himself into more hot water this weekend after a visit to the Anne Frank House Museum in Amsterdam on Saturday.
According to a post on the Anne Frank House’s Facebook page: “Yesterday night Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank House, together with his friends and guards. Fans were waiting outside to see a glimpse of him. He stayed more than an hour in the museum.”
Nothing wrong with a young man paying his respects to one of the most well-known victims of the Holocaust while on tour in Europe – it’s something that millions of tourists from around the world do every year, right?
But Beiber took things a step too far, as the rest of the post relates: “In our guestbook he wrote: ‘Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber.'”
While the Beibs obviously meant well, his glib tone ruffled the feathers of more than a few fans who hold Anne Frank’s memory sacred – generating a storm of negative comments on FB and beyond. But at least the visit kept him out of trouble in the infamous coffeehouses of Amsterdam’s Red Light District.
